Shaun Of The Red

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is expected to meet with the club's owners this week and outline his transfer targets, the signing of whom are crucial to the decision of the Scottish great as to whether to sign a new deal or not. Top of the wishlist is Manchester City and England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips. The stepson of Ian Wright has become increasingly isolated from first-team duty at Eastlands in recent months and with further big money signings on the horizon for the Manchester club, his long-term prospects there look gloomy.

A source close to the player told us: "Shaun is desperate to secure his place in the England squad for Euro 2012 as he's never played at an international tournament, and this is probably his last chance. He isn't going to get there by playing for City's reserves, innit blud."

City re-signed Wright-Phillips from Chelsea in 2008 but he has failed to rekindle the form he showed when first breaking into the team almost a decade ago. A fee of £5m is likely to be demanded by City and Dalglish will make him a key member of his new look Liverpool team in 2011/12.
